Body found at Heritage Hotel in Southbury
- Police have confirmed that a body was found Monday in the parking lot of the Heritage Hotel and Conference Center.
Authorities said no foul play is expected, however, in the death of David Keefe, 50, who was found in the parking lot inside a 2010 Kia Soul. The hotel is near Heritage Village - one of the largest senior housing communities in the region.
Detectives with both the local department and the State Police Western District Major Crime Squad are both investigating the scene where the body was located.
Keefe’s body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
State investigates black bear killed in Roxbury
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is seeking the public’s help as it investigates an adult male black bear found dead onRoxbury Land Trust property off Upper County Road.
Town officials started receiving calls about the dead bear on Wednesday morning. The Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police and DEEP are asking for anyone with information about the incident to call DEEP emergency dispatch at 860-424-3333.
Bear sightings have been common in Roxbury this spring.
DEEP has also warned residents of western Connecticut of bear attacks on livestock and bee hives.
“At least a dozen cases of bear attacks on livestock have been reported so far this year. This is well above the number of cases for the same time period in recent years,” DEEP posted on its web site. “Bears have killed goats, sheep, chickens, and rabbits.”

Elwell is a 1960 Torrington High School graduate. He attended the University of Connecticutfrom 1960 to 1962 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania College of Veterinary Medicine in 1966.
He then began practicing with Dr. Ray Church in Winsted before enlisting in the U.S. Army in the Veterinary Corps. He served for six years, including more than three years in Vietnam caring for 3,000 military dogs.

Roxbury couple celebrates 70 years of marriage
A local couple will celebrate 70 years of marriage later this month.
Raymond and Barbara Hunicke, who have lived in Roxbury for decades, married on May 17, 1947 and had four children. They started the LewisCorporation, a company that manufactured cleaning equipment.
Communication has been their secret to success for 70 happy years, said Barbara Hunicke.
“We were saying the other day we really never argued,” she said. “If we had a disagreement we talked it over, but we never got so mad that we stormed out or anything like that.”
It didn’t hurt, she said, that if one of them did something “wrong,” he or she would put a dollar in a jar. Then, they would go out to dinner together.
The two met shortly after Raymond, now 91, graduated from Cornell University and Barbara, now 94, finished served in the U.S. Navy, repairing ships used during World War II.
They grew up in the same town in New Jersey, but did know each other well until they ended up at the same bridge game. “He was maybe two blocks away, but in a younger class and way back then you didn’t talk to anybody that was in a younger class,” Barbara Hunicke said.
They went on some group dates and then out to dinner. She does not remember the particular moment she fell in love with Raymond. “I guess it came slowly,” she said.
The couple moved to the Danbury area to work at a transistor company before buying a house in Roxbury which had no electricity or running water. They repaired the home, eventually adding another wing, a pool, and buying two nearby barns they used as garages.
